Meet Tebow, Spirit, Rocky, Oliver, and Sophie.

Have I said before how much I absolutely love my job and that I am so grateful for getting the opportunity to meet families such as this? Well, if not, I do, I love my job. I love meeting the people, the dogs, the families as a whole, and learning their stories…how they came to know one another. As you can tell by the photo, this family has chosen to share with their lives with 5 dogs, all adopted/rescued and welcomed with open arms. A few were chosen directly while a couple others were the result of “foster failures”, as mom likes to put it. Before I begin, I wanted to share with you what mom sent to me when I asked about her pack.

“So we have Rocky who is 14 years old. We adopted him when we first got married from the Houston SPCA. His original pack Lexie (a Golden) and Sparky (Lab/Dalmatian) passed away 4 years ago. He has never really been the same since Lexie passed.  Neither was I, which is why I’m so grateful to have found my calling, rescue, right around this time. So I quickly adopted Sophie from OCAS (pit/rotty/doberman mix)… Sophie is wonderful, loves everyone just barks a lot. She is my pseudo alpha…I’m the real alpha :). Then came Spirit (Golden Chow mix) who was found as a stray by my daughter’s teacher. We took him in 4 years ago. Spirit has the best temperament in the world…loves all dogs and everyone. We named him Spirit for having such a free spirit. I swear he embodies God in a way. Then came Tebow (my favorite, but they don’t know that). We rescued his mom from euthanasia. She was pregnant with 8 pups, Tebow being one of them. It was love at first sight…and the rest is history. He is my largest, weighing 105lbs. His mom was Australian cattle mix and the dad was an American Bulldog. Tebow looks scary, but doesn’t have a mean bone in his body. He’s super gentle and loves everyone and everything. Lastly, is Ollie or Oliver (my little man). Oliver came from a rural shelter up in Chipley, Fl. He was a foster that just seemed to stick. My 2nd foster failure (Tebow was the 1st). Oliver just blended so well with the pack, it was like he wasn’t even there, so we fell in love and kept him. We are not really sure how old he is or what he is. He looks like a bulldog, but I’m not really sure. So there you have it, one girl and four boys. Rocky is 14, Sophie and Spirit are 4, Tebow is 3, Oliver is probably 6ish. Sorry so long. I can go on and on about them :)”

The way mom described her pack was what really drew me in. These dogs are so fortunate to have found such an amazing mom and such a welcoming, loving family. There are bonds between them all, no doubt, but the relationship between Rocky and J (the oldest child) is real. J is 20 and has had Rocky in his life since he was 6 years old. Mom described their relationship as from the movie “My Dog Skip”. Needless to say, they were inseparable. Which is why it was so important that we schedule their session when J was home from college. I am so glad we were able to get some photographs of the two of them together because sadly, Rocky crossed the rainbow bridge a few weeks after our session.

This family embodies what it means to be selfless and caring. They have shown me what it means to love unconditionally and I know my life is better for just having met them.
